TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo accepted the resignation letter submitted by a millennial special staff Adamas Belva Devara.
“President Jokowi accepts the resignation from Adamas Belva Syah Devara and understands the reason,” said Pramono Anung in a written statement on Tuesday, April 21.
Belva was one of the seven Jokowi's special staffs from the millennial generation who were inaugurated on November 21, 2019. He proposed a resignation following the polemic related to his startup Ruangguru and the government’s pre-employment card program.
As the CEO of Ruangguru, he was deemed to have a conflict of interest since his company was involved in the government’s program.
However, Pramono clarified that Belva’s online learning platform participated in the program as it passed a designated verification process based on the prevailing regulation, and so there was no conflict of interest. This statement had also been conveyed by Coordinating Minister for Economy Luhut Pandjaitan, he added.
Belva decided to step down from his prestigious position as he did not want to cause further controversy due to a variety of public assumptions and perceptions about his status as a presidential special staff.
“This may break the President’s concentration and also all state officials' too from dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Belva Devara in a written statement on Tuesday, April 21.
