TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Wishnutama Kusubandio expressed optimism that Indonesia’s tourism industry will return to normal and grow positively in 2021. At present, the sector is among the hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
“We believe that because of the current work from home orders, tourism will experience a very significant rebound in 2021,” said Wishnutama after attending a limited meeting on the virus disease or COVID-19 mitigation on Thursday, April 16, via a video conference.
The minister added that the rise in the tourism industry will occur after the pandemic ends. During the opening of the meeting, President Jokowi also voiced his belief that the global pandemic will stop before next year.
The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, Wishnutama went on, was continuously coordinating with many operators of the national super-priority destinations as the preparation of a future rebound in the tourism industry.
He explained that the government will mainly focus on the basic things of the tourism sector, including the hygiene, toilets, cleanliness, safety, and security of tourist destinations.
“So we really go back to the basics, and [we will hold] training regarding tourism hospitality after the COVID-19 pandemic ends,” Wishnutama remarked.
