TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (BTP) or also known as Ahok has spoken up about the recent polemic of Monas revitalization project carried out by the city administration. He said the renovation plan had been drafted since a long time ago.
“As far as I know, the design is already set,” revealed BTP, who is now the Chief Commissioner of state-run oil and gas firm Pertamina, after a meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Friday, January 31.
He explained that during his administration, the design that was set by the provincial administration along with the central administration focused on the construction of the basement floor for a shopping center.
From the ground floor, BTP recalled, the design would also allow people to access a variety of integrated transportation, including Mass Rapid Transit or MRT Jakarta. Visitors can also reach buildings around the Monas area, such as RRI and the City Hall.
“The parking lot for cars is also designated in the basement, as well as micro, small, medium enterprises (MSMEs),” he added, recalling that the plan was halted due to various problems.
When asked about the revitalization project that is now stalled, Ahok balked at providing comments and refused to compare the project procedures taken by the current administration helmed by Anies Baswedan to that of his era. “I have forgotten it,” he remarked.
The Monas revitalization program grabbed the public spotlight after the city administration cut down 190 trees in the area, which resulted in public outcries over environmental concerns.
