TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Renowned Indonesian multi-talented public figure Nicholas Saputra has been tapped as the Indonesian UNICEF ambassador.
“Nicholas was appointed because of his significant track record in work and private life,” said UNICEF Indonesia representative Debora Comini in Jakarta on Monday.
According to Debora, the actor, director, producer, and environmental activist has demonstrated a remarkable track record both in his career and as a champion of humanity. As an activist for environmental issues, Nicholas will be greatly involved in assisting UNICEF’s campaign to promote safe sanitation and access to clean water.
Prior to Nicholas Saputra, UNICEF Indonesia appointed actor Ferry Salim as its national ambassador back in 2004. The organization said they chose public figures as it would help raise awareness of humanitarian programs, which mainly involved children.
Meanwhile, Nicholas Saputra has also announced his readiness to bear the role of ambassador, saying it was not too far from his activities as an environmental activist. He said that the issues regarding the country’s environment could only be solved by influencing the future generation into caring more about the environment.
