Mount Kerinci Erupts; PVMBG Status on Alert II

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Center of Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) in Bandung reported that Mount Kerinci in Jambi has erupted today, July 31, at 12:48 local time. The ash cloud was observed up to 800 meters above the mountain peak.

The Head of the Center Kasbani explained the ash column was observed to be grey with medium intensity heading to the northeast and east area. “The status of the mountain is now at level II or alert,” he underlined, Wednesday, July 31.

People living in the area and visitors or tourists are advised to stay away from the crater as far as three kilometers. The PVMBG also recommended airlines to avoid routes near the mountain area.

“Because it still has potential eruption with a certain height that can disturb flight routes,” Kasbani added.
