FPI Permit Renewal Awaits Jokowi's Decision: Minister

30 July 2019 17:34 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said that the permit extension of Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) has become the full authority of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi.

“It’s the President’s decision. Whatever the decision will be, we have to be loyal (accept it),” said Ryamizard in Kusumanegara Heroes Cemetery (TMP) in Yogyakarta, Tuesday, July 30.

The organization permits had expired per June 20, 2019. Up to today, over a month later, the government has yet to signal on the permit renewal.

Previously reported, the Islamic organization was demanded to submit 20 requirements for the permit extension, including an official statement letter of not affiliating with any political party and other files related to the technicalities of the organization.

“The President will surely determine [whether to extend the permit or not] based on considerations. Hopefully, it is the best decision for both parties,” Ryamizard concluded.
