Remain as Opposition, Gerindra may Triumph in 2024: Voxpol Center

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Executive Director of Voxpol Center Research and Consulting, Pangi Syarwi Chaniago argues that Prabowo Subianto’s Gerindra Party will have a better chance of winning in the 2024 general elections as long as they remain as oppositions.
“It’s better for Gerindra to partake in 5-year fasting,” said Pangi in a statement today.
He revealed several reasons that support his analysis, firstly is that Gerindra will have a greater chance to attract votes at the 2024 legislative elections – only if Jokowi’s administration does not deliver in his second term.
Pangi also predicts that the tight association between Jokowi and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) will heavily affect the party’s electability.
“If Jokowi’s second term disappoints, then it would potentially eat PDIP’s electability,” said Pangi.
The second reason is that Gerindra is currently the only party that is able to counterbalance the government in power and correct its political path in governing the country. He even mentioned Gerindra as a first-tier political party that has a bargaining position spirit in taking the role as opposition.
