Gov't and DPR Indonesia Elections Evaluation Held in Early 2020

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo announced that the government together with the House of Representatives (DPR) plans to evaluate the 2019 General Elections (Pemilu).

He elaborated that the elements that would be evaluated consists of the number of poll stations (TPS) and the logistical preparedness of said poll stations during Indonesia election.

“Once everything is completed, early in January of 2020 we will have this meeting with the DPR, elections organizers (the General Elections Commission / KPU, Elections Supervisory Agency / Bawaslu, the DKPP), and every other stakeholder,” said the Minister in a written statement on Monday.

One element that will be thoroughly evaluated will be the death toll of the poll station working committee (KPPS) members during and after the elections day. In terms of the tragic passings, Tjahjo expressed his condolences and cherishes the members’ dedications.

The scheduled evaluation next year will be held after the newly elected legislative members are officially formed.

“We will also involve experts in the field of democracy such as from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), and we will also be considering the alternative of electronic voting (e-voting),” said Minister Tjahjo.
