TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Retired Indonesian Military (TNI) Major General Kivlan Zen asks everyone to sit together to solve the problems from Indonesia’s gloomy history, in order to stop any spite left.
“The amount of spite still left [inside us] failed to bring the nation forward,” said Kivlan Zen in a discussion on the country’s 1998 history clarification at Wedangan Jagongan Solo on Thursday, March 28.
He mentions the past conflicts that continue to leave firm spite up to this day, such as the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) rebellion, Permesta rebellious movement, and the unraveled mysteries that continue to surround the fall of Soeharto’s New Order.
He also mentions the disappearance of the known poet Widji Thukul, where its facts are still unfortunately kept under wraps.
Kivlan Zen argues that the mysteries could only be revealed if everyone involved is able to sit together and openly discuss the matter.
“Whoever is guilty or has sinned in the past must speak up,” said Kivlan who maintains it is the best way to spark true reconciliation. “The sinners must come clean and after that, we must move forward,” he asserted.
