TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto talked about suicides among Indonesians during his campaign speech titled "Nationalism" today at JCC Senayan.
“I received reports a while ago of a father named Hardi who committed suicide in Tawangharjo, Gerobokan, Central Java,” Prabowo said in his speech. “The deceased took his own life because he was not able to pay his debts and left a child and a wife.”
Prabowo added he often came across similar stories in the past few years.

Prabowo said he discovered many members of society had started to complain about their financial struggles.
“Many housewives have complained of the rocketing prices. How can Indonesia’s sugar prices be three-times more expensive than the world's?” In his speech, Prabowo also mentioned the import of food commodities, including salt.
