TNI AU Intercepts Unauthorized Cargo Plane Bound for Hong Kong

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) dispatched two F-16 fighter jets and intercepted a Boeing 777 cargo plane flying illegally over the country’s airspace on Monday.
The B-777 ET-AVN, which was flying from Addis Ababa to Hong Kong, was force-landed at the International Hang Nadim Airport in the Riau Islands today.
The cargo plane was unscheduled and unequipped with flying clearance. The incident was first reported by National Air Defense Sector Command III in Medan to the National Air Defense Command.

“After receiving the information, the National Air Defense Command commander Air Vice Marshal Imran Baidrus immediately reported to the National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander Air Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto,” said Air Force’s Colonel Taibur Rahman in a written statement on Monday, January 14, 2019.
The cargo plane is currently grounded at Batam’s Hang Nadim Airport by TNI AU for further investigation.
