Tsunami; Boat Deployed to Evacuate People Trapped in Island

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Ministry deployed a patrol boat KPLP KNP. 336 to assist the Search and Rescue team to evacuate victims of the tsunami that hit the coast of Sunda Strait on Saturday evening, December 23. 

Head of Panjang Port Authority (KSOP) Class 1 Pranyoto said the ships headed to Legundi Island to help the SAR team evacuated victims trapped in the island. The boat landed at 16:00 local times in Panjang Port on Sunday, December 23, boarding 47 people including 7 children. 

“Some suffer light injuries, and many are traumatized,” he added, Sunday, December 23. 

Pranyoto said the victims were rushed to a hospital in Bandar Lampung for medical treatment. All officers and employees of KSOP Panjang are ready to help the tsunami victims. 

However, he continued, the disaster which occurred in the coast of Sunda Strait did not affect facilities and infrastructures in Panjang Port and that its operational runs as usual.

“Panjang Port is safe and not affected by the tsunami. Only in Sebalang Port, Lampung, that covers with waste after the tsunami,” Pranyoto noted.
