TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) planned to file an appeal against the court verdict on the defendant of the bribery case of Riau-1 steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) project, Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo.

“KPK has decided to file an appeal,” said KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah, responding to the verdict on the bribe case of Riau-1 PLTU on Tuesday, December 18.

Febri said three KPK prosecutors deemed several decisions of the panel of judges regarding the verdict required further consideration in the High Court.

Besides, the verdict on Kotjo was lighter than prosecutors’ demands. “Facts brought up during the trial process until judges' verdict must be further reviewed,” Febri underlined.

Earlier on December 13, the panel of judges in the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Kotjo two years and eight months imprisonment. The judges also demanded the defendant to pay a fine of Rp150 million as a subsidiary of three months in jail.

The judges found Kotjo guilty of bribing a deputy speaker of Energy Commission of the House of Representatives (DPR) Eni Saragih at Rp4.75 billion to help the latter obtain the Riau-1 PLTU project.

The sentence was lighter than demands issued by the KPK prosecutors, which was four years behind bars and a fine of Rp250 million for a subsidiary of six months in jail.
