TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf "JK" Kalla has dismissed allegations that media magnate Erick Thohir was appointed as the leader of the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin campaign team to match vice presidential candidate Sandiaga Uno, rather, it was owing to Erick's abilities.
JK said Jokowi was in search of someone capable of spearheading a big team. "Erick is used to leading a big team, both national and international levels," JK said in his office in Jakarta on Monday, September 10.
Erick is presently the president of Italian football giant Inter Milan. He was also the chairman of the Indonesia Asian Games 2018 Organizing Committee (Inasgoc).

JK said these experiences highlighted Erick's abilities in running a team, and it was hoped that he was up to managing the Jokowi-Ma'ruf camp's programs.
Earlier, National Development Party (PPP) politician Arsul Sani said Erick Thohir's appointment was thanks to the latter's impeccable track record in leadership and management. He added Erick was also viewed as a young public figure who could represent the millenials. Aside from those, he said, Erick is a successful businessman that all parties in the Jokowi-Ma'ruf camp approve of.
