The government currently has around Rp3,600 trillion debt. Pramono said that the growth of government debt has been relatively small, adding that the Jokowi Administration will be focusing on tightening the state budget in the next couple of years. The President has told ministers to be focused and more efficient.
The government will prioritize infrastructure projects and poverty eradication. State agencies are expected to help reduce the Gini coefficient. “We believe that in 2018 if all [factors] remain constant, economic growth can reach 5.3 percent to 5.4 percent,” Pramono said, related to the sovereign debt inherited by Jokowi.
