TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama said that his office has conducted a measure on eradicating illegal levies in Jakarta’s government agencies. “Jakarta has done it for three years. We cut off people who were caught conducting illegal levy,” he said on Thursday, October 20, 2016.
Other than government employees, he also has fired honorary employees. Ahok said that for over a year, eight government employees in the line of one door integrated service have been fired. “There were hundreds of teachers or the department of transportation that were fired.”
According to Ahok, he had fired the troublesome employees in every working unit, which then only leaves the good employees.
Minister for the Empowerment of State Apparatus Asman Abnur earlier issued a circular letter to follow-up President Joko Widodo’s orders related to the eradication of illegal levies in government agencies.
Contained in the circular letter are some steps to be taken in order to eradicate the illegal levy practices. First, identify the potential area where it might happen and take effective actions to eradicate it. Second, take firm actions against the state apparatus that is involved, and the third is to conduct a thorough investigation to reveal their networks.
