TEMPO.CO, JakartaNew Chief of the Jakarta Metro Jaya Police Inspector General M Iriawan has reminded every member of the community to avoid hostility during the next gubernatorial election (pilkada) in Jakarta in February 2017.

"Let together we maintain conducive situation during the implementation of Jakarta Pilkada," M Iriawan said on Tuesday.

Every element of the community, including the governor and deputy governor candidates must not take up issues concerning race, tribe, and religion.

He hoped that the process of pilkada from September 2016 until October 2017 could run safely and without conflict.

The Jakarta pilkada implementation will become a barometer for pilkada in other regions, therefore it should be carried out orderly and safely.

"If the pilkada in the capital city problematic one, it would have potential to spread to other provinces," the former chief of the West Java Police, said.

The two-star general said he is ready to communicate with every element of the community in order to maintain security in Jakarta.

Three pairs of Jakarta governor and deputy governor candidates have registered themselves to the Jakarta Election Commission (KPU).

They are incumbent Basuki Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Syaiful Hidayat, Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno, and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni.
