TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The National Police chief Tito Karnavian has confirmed that Haris Azhar had been reported to Police Criminal Investigation Unit by the National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN).
Haris had been reported to police in connection with his article about the testimony of drug convict Freddy Budiman, who claimed that he had paid the authorities in his acts.
“[Haris] has been reported, it’s true, by the TNI and the BNN as far as I know, maybe by the Police, too,” Tito said Wednesday, August 3, 2016.
The Police chief expressed that the coordinator of the Commission on Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) had only been reported. Haris would be summoned for questioning by police. Haris would be named as a suspect if police found him violates the Law on Information and Electronic Transactions.
Tito considered the reporting of Haris to police as normal. Because the government institutions reserve the right to report anyone if they felt harmed by premature information. He also said that the information in Haris’ article was unverified. Tito said police have obtained the data of Freddy’s defense plea and questioned his lawyer, however, they have yet to find anything that would confirm the statement published by Haris.
“In this case, Freddy had been involved in some criminal cases, his credibility as a source of information is questionable as [the info] could be inconsistent,” he said.
Earlier, Haris published an article about his conversation with drug convict Freddy Budiman wherein Freddy claimed that he had conspired with alleged personnel of the National Narcotics Agency and Police Headquarters in drug dealing.
