TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta’s new policy of odd-even numbered vehicle to reduce congestion will be implemented starting July 27, 2016. Earlier, report said that the rule would be tried out for a month.
Jakarta Metro Police will disseminate information about the policy from June 26 to July 26, 2016. “We have to make sure that the public is fully informed,” said Jakarta Metro Police Chief Insp. Gen. Moechgiyarto in the Jakarta Metro Police complex, Wednesday, June 22, 2016.
After the dissemination, the policy will be tried out from July 27 to August 26, 2016. The official implementation will be carried out on August 30, 2016.
The routes subject to the rule are major thoroughfares, namely Jalan M.H. Thamrin, Rasuna Said, Medan Merdeka Barat, Sudirman and Gatot Subroto (from Slipi intersections-Mampang intersections).
Odd-even policy will not be implemented for 24 hours. Moechgiyarto explained that the policy will be in effect during the same period as that of three-in-one scheme, namely from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
During the said time, private vehicles with plate numbers ending in odd or even digits will be allowed to pass through the said thoroughfares on odd and even numbered dates respectively.
According to Moechgiyarto, cars that violate the rule will be pulled over, stopped and be given traffic ticket on the spot. However if the cars are out of police reach, pictures will be taken for further notice. “It’s simple in my opinion,” Moechgiyarto.
