TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the requirements for transportation network companies (TNCs) must be met by end of May 2016. Luhut admitted that he has reminded relevant operators, among others, Uber and Grab of the issue.
“The regulation is being prepared, the deadline is May 31, 2016, so by June 1 [TNCs] must comply with the rules,” he said yesterday at the Ministry’s building, Central Jakarta.
According to Luhut, the requirements to be met by TNCs for them to operate in Indonesia, among others, are legal aspects and regulation on cooperatives. “They have to comply with the rules, on passenger safety, also to pay taxes,” he said.
The government had previously asked app-based transport services Grab and Uber to comply with the regulation on mode of transport as outlined in Law No. 22/2009 on Traffic and Road Transport.
Despite being allowed to operate through their partnering drivers, the two companies have been banned from increasing the number of partnering car rentals and individuals during a transitional period that will end on May 31, 2016.
The requirements to be met, in accordance with Law No. 22/2009, among others, are having a legal entity, being registered in local transportation department and having mode of transport permit.
