TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Democratic Party’s Honorary Council Chief, also former legal and human rights minister, Amir Syamsuddin, said that the statement from Democratic Party’s politician Ruhut Sitompul on Ani Yudhoyono’s presidential nomination for 2019 election is not an official statement of the party.
“Who has announced it? It must be officially came from Democratic [Party]. So far, there’s no official statement,” Amir told Tempo after a discussion on democracy and corruption held by Transparency International Indonesia in Jakarta, Tuesday, March 15, 2016.
Previously, a picture of Ani claiming her nomination in 2019 had been circulating around, bearing the words: “Ani Yudhoyono Democratic Party’s Presidential Candidate of 2019. Lanjutkan! [Continue!]”. The lower part of the picture shows #AniYudhoyono2019 hashtag.
Shortly after the picture circulation, Ruhut confirmed Ani’s intention to run for president. He said that the discourse was initiated by people who aspire that Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono could once again run for president, which is clearly impossible.
Amir also said that the picture of Ani is unofficial. He said that anyone could create and share the picture without official desire from Ani to run for president. “Moreover, 2019 [election] is still a long way off. However, if there are people who wants to support Ibu Ani as presidential candidate, go ahead,” he said.
