TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has arrested two Indonesian men under charges of illegally transacting foreign currencies and violating international trade law.

Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities (PWNI-BHI) from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo received news of the two men's detainment on Wednesday, November 11.

The Tokyo MPD arrested IR (31) and DN (40) after they made online purchases of rifle scopes—twice--and sent the goods to Indonesia through a shipping service.

According to Iqbal, the rifle scopes they bought and shipped are categorized as weapons that require licenses before they can be shipped overseas.

The Tokyo police searched the two men's apartments and found 29 more of the same guns. During the search, the cops found a video of former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden on their Facebook pages.

"The Tokyo Metro Police highly suspect that these men are linked to foreign terrorist fighters," he said.
