TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Citizens seemed to be extra cautious for dangerous substances when shopping food products in traditional markets in North Jakarta. Evidently, the officers found seven food samples containing formalin and chlorine from 10 traditional markets during sudden inspection just recently.
Those 10 markets are Inpres Kelapa Gading Timur, Mandiri, Tugu, Lontar, Sunter Podomoro, Sungai Bambu, Lokbin Rorotan, Kalibaru, Muara Karang and Pluit market.
“There are sausage containing chlorine and beef containing formalin. Those seven samples were taken from 6 markets,” said Head of North Jakarta Marine, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-Department, Una Rusmana.
Rusmana revealed that the formalin and chlorine substances have very dangerous effect for human health. If people consume it, it can cause kidney and liver damages, as well as cancer.
Government Assistant of North Jakarta, Tonny Sukanda, added that the peddlers who are still selling dangerous food products have been warned. In future, if the case is still found, they will get sanction.
“All this time, they just don’t know. We only want people to consume healthy food without any dangerous substance threat,” he expressed.
