TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Chief of Constitutional Court, Mahfud MD, predicted that the Corruption Eradication Commission will no longer exist in Indonesia in the future. Mahfud said that KPK has weakened over time.
"It will not be in immediate timing. It is more of 25 years from now," said Mahfud on Tuesday July 7.
He added that the second reason of KPK’s extinction is because it was meant to be an ad hoc institute. Therefore, when there is no need for KPK, it can be dismissed.
"When the police and attorneys are able to continue handling corruption case, KPK can be abolished," he said. Moreover, Mahfud said that this is the right moment for the police and attorney office to step in, empowering their institution to a point where they are able to deal with corruption cases.
