TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Garuda Indonesia hajj flight carrying 375 pilgrims bound to Solo, Central Java, was diverted to Colombo, Sri Lanka "due to a technical fault and for the safety of our passengers," said Edayanti Dasril, an official of the Hajj Management Board in Jeddah, at the Hajj Media Centre in Jeddah ealier today.
The aircraft took off at 13.10 Jeddah time, carrying in it Flight Group No 14 to Solo from Jeddah. The plane landed in Colombo at 19.30 Colombo time.
"Pilgrims were provided with accommodations and food, as the current regulation dictates," said Edayanti.
A replacement airplane has been dispatched to collect the stranded pilgrims home.
