TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Illegal sand mining started to thrive again in Bengawan Solo river, especially in Bojonegoro and Tuban regency. The miners are taking advantage of the drought by dredging the sand from the already shallow river stream.
The miner sucked the sands using machinery that can cause the land to slide down and threatens the base of nearby bridges. In Ngraho district, for example, there are 12 illegal mining units operating every day. Similar condition happens in Bankarsari village, Trucuk district.
The Head of Bojonegoro Public Order Police Unit (Satpol PP), Kusbianto said that he is planning to raid the miners in the next one or two weeks. If his team manages to catch the miners, he will bring the case to the court.
