TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - There is no time for tennis world champion Maria Sharapova to relax during the holidays as she touched down in Brisbane Airport, Australia, following a long flight from Los Angeles, the United States.
The world’s third-ranked female player arrived in Australia to compete in the Brisbane International from December 29 to January 5 and the Australian Open, which will begin on January 14.
The Russian athlete has not played a tournament since August due to an injured right shoulder and limited herself to one exhibition match in Columbia earlier this month to test her recovery ahead of her upcoming matches.
Sharapova said she would seek consult from newly hired coach Sven Groeneveld before deciding how much work she will do on Brisbane’s court.
When asked whether her shoulder would be ready for battle in a tennis tournament, she briefly replied, “I hope so.”
