Minister Confirms FPI Status

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Home Affairs Gamawan Fauzi has confirmed that the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) is listed as a community organization at the Directorate General of Political and National Unity of the Home Affairs Ministry.

"[FPI] is listed as community organization," said Gamawan at the presidential office in Jakarta on Thursday, July 25.

Earlier, Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam had claimed that FPI was not listed as community organization but a mere gathering forum. "FPI is not listed as community organization at the Political and National Unity Directorate General," said Dipo at the presidential office on Wednesday, July 24.

Due to the lack of established 'status', Dipo said that it is difficult to dismiss the organization despite the pressure from the community. "Home Affairs Minister said that [FPI] are not registered as a community organization. What's there to suspend?" asked Dipo.
