  • TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said he wanted to attract the minimum-budget backpackers from around the globe to visit Indonesia by providing Nomadic Tourism. He stated it when attending the 4th ASEAN Marketing Summit 2018 at Raffles Hotel Jakarta, Thursday, September 6.

Nomadic Tourism is a strategy to build accessibility and accommodation with nomadic concepts. In terms of accommodation, the glamping, home pods, and caravans have met the nomadic elements and in terms of transportation, the seaplane is used.

Based on the data, the number of backpackers around the world now reaches 39.7 million. Arief stated that Nomadic Tourism is a temporary solution that will be a permanent solution.

Arief said that tourism destinations in Indonesia were numerous and widespread. Therefore, it is impossible to build each destination using the old concept. For example, Arief pointed out, the Nusa Dua tourism area in Bali, which need 20 years to be built with the old concept.

Nomadic Tourism is implemented in areas with minimal facilities and does not fulfill the element of 3A (attractions, amenities and accessibility). This step was proclaimed to attract foreign tourists, which is targeted to reach 17 million people this year and 20 million people in 2019.

Arief said that Nomadic Tourism was focused on tourists (or backpackers). “So we can focus it on the millennial market for example,” he said.

The Tourism Ministry currently targets in developing 100 digital markets in 34 provinces and 10 Nomadic Tourism (glamping, home pods, and caravans) in leading tourist destinations.
