TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte congratulated Prabowo Subianto for leading the Indonesian presidential elections as indicated by the unofficial quick count results.
"I just congratulated @Prabowo Subianto following the projected outcome of the elections in Indonesia yesterday. I look forward to continuing to develop the friendship and strong bond between our two countries," Mr. Rutte posted to X on Thursday, Feb. 15.
Rutte is one among several world leaders who have congratulated the Defense Minister for his expected victory.
The Prabowo-Gibran campaign team's spokesman, Budisatrio Djiwandono, named four state leaders who have congratulated Prabowo directly; Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
Budisatrio said the congratulatory messages show that the international world recognizes Prabowo and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the nation's leaders. Nevertheless, he said the team will wait for the official count from the General Elections Commission (KPU).
Meanwhile, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the country is ready to cooperate with Indonesia's new government. "China wants to continue cooperation with Indonesia to build a relationship of mutual trust," the ministry's spokesperson said in a written statement, on Feb. 16, calling Indonesia China's close neighbor.
