Jakpro: JIS Designed as Sustainable Zone for Jakarta's Global City Vision

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) is envisioned as a zone of sustainable development that will support Jakarta's journey towards becoming a global city, Jakarta Government-owned property company PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) stated.

"This refers to Governor's Regulation No.14 of 2019 concerning the Integrated Sports Zone of Jakarta International Stadium that tasks Jakpro with developing and managing the zone," President Director of Jakpro Iwan Takwin remarked in Jakarta on Monday.

During the U-17 FIFA World Cup last year, the football stadium hosted a total of 16 matches, including those in the knockout stages.

Takwin explained that the development plan of JIS had designed the stadium as the axis of new welfare and economic growth zones in the northern part of the capital city.

"Prior to the existence of JIS, this area was a vacant land used as a landfill and a junk processing field by local residents," he stated.

He said that the development of JIS constitutes one of the government's measures for actualizing urban regeneration and establishing a zone that supports sustainability.

"We have the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in the south, and now, we have JIS in the north," he remarked.

The president director then remarked that JIS would be integrated by various systems of mass transport, such as TransJakarta buses, commuter line trains, and light rail transit (LRT) trains.

Takwin also stated that JIS would be surrounded by a commercial zone, hotels, and other facilities that will support the vision of the stadium as an integrated sports zone, noting that international standards will always be applied to all facilities and events.

Hence, to this end, he said, Jakpro is not merely paying attention to activities but also to the aspect of education. In this context, he stated that the company is striving to assure the public that JIS and its supporting facilities are meant to support Jakarta's global city vision.

Earlier, an urban planning expert from Trisakti University, Nirwono Yoga, outlined 10 zones in Jakarta that will be proposed as thematic zones in a bid to support Jakarta's transition into a global city.

The zones include JIS that highlights the themes of sports as well as meeting, incentive, conference, and exhibition (MICE).
