TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice Presidential candidate number one Muhaimin Iskandar, known as Cak Imin, stated that the wealth of 100 affluent Indonesians is equal to the wealth of 100 million of Indonesia's working class. This statement was said during the vice presidential debate at the Jakarta Convention Center on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023.

"Imagine that the wealth of 100 Indonesians is above 100 million of the Indonesian population," he said.

Seeing this discrepancy, Cak Imin is committed to bringing a change to the situation. "This is injustice, and it must be changed," he said.

Cak Imin claimed his side is planning to implement higher taxes for the rich. "We will tax this group of 100 rich people and at the same time, lower the tax of Indonesia's middle class," he said.

Additionally, Cak Imin highlighted Indonesia's economic situation with high staple food prices. "Today, chilis are expensive, rice is expensive, the middlemen are cruel, and business mafias are everywhere. We need to squash them," he exclaimed.

The General Elections Commission or KPU set the vice presidential debate themes around the economy, including the people's economy and digital economy, finance, investment, taxes, trade, management of the state budget and regional budget, infrastructure, and urban areas.
