TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - This evening, the General Elections Commission (KPU) will draw the serial number of the presidential-vice presidential candidates contesting in the 2024 general elections.
These presidential candidates are; Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar backed by Coalition for Change, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md backed by PDIP Coalition, and Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka from Onward Indonesia Coalition
The serial number drawing will be conducted after a dinner with the running candidates. "The [drawing] will commence with a dinner with the presidential and vice presidential candidates along with the head of political parties that back each of the running pair," said KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari in Jakarta on Monday.
Gerindra Party, the party behind Prabowo-Gibran expressed their hopes that the pair will get number two. The Secretary General of Gerindra Party Ahmad Muzani said this number was the same serial number for his party at the general elections.
According to Muzani, this hope was shared by the two other parties. "Anies-Muhaimin team hopes to get number one for PKB, while Ganjar-Mahfud number three for PDI Perjuangan," he said.
However, he also said that any number will be welcomed by the team. This sentiment was shared by the Onward Indonesia Coalition's running vice presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming Raka. "Each of the numbers is good," he said in Solo yesterday.
Meanwhile, Anies spokesperson Billy David mentioned that no number will affect the solidity and readiness of Anies-Muhaimin supporters. "There is no specific hope directed to any serial number drawn on [Tuesday] evening," he remarked.
PDIP politician Aria Bima also stated that his side would welcome any serial number for Ganjar-Mahfud. "We are not placing our hope on the number, Number one, two, three, we'll accept it," he said on Monday.
