Fire Breaks Out in West Jakarta's Tambora; 95 Firefighters Deployed

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A massive fire engulfed residential houses in Jalan Krendang Utara, Tambora District, West Jakarta. Syarifudin, the head of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency’s operations unit, said the fire broke out at about 6:40 p.m.
“We are deploying 95 personnel and 20 fire trucks,” Syarifudin said in a written statement received on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
The fire department received the information at 6:40 p.m. and headed straight to the scene. Residents reported the incident to the nearest fire station.
Tambora Police Chief Commissioner Putra Pratama confirmed the blaze incident. Firefighters are still trying to extinguish the raging fire.
“The status remains red (alert),” Putra said on Thursday, September 7.
The police have not yet received information on the alleged cause of the fire. The losses incurred by affected residents have not yet been calculated.
The fire incident was also reported on the official Instagram account of the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, @humasjakfire, which showed an amateur video of the situation of the ongoing firefighting efforts.
