TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah stated that her side is still reviewing the discourse on implementing Work From Home (WFH) as one of the ways to fight air pollution in Jakarta's area and its surroundings.

"We are still discussing. We have not come to a conclusion, still not yet reached whether it was the minister's appeal or the private sector's own appeal or (that of) the provincial government," Fauziyah told the press after the MPR Annual Session and the DPR-DPD Joint Session of 2023 at the Nusantara Building in the Senayan Parliament Complex in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 16, 2023.

The minister pointed out that air pollution is a common problem that should be resolved in order to prevent it from getting worse, as people's mobility had increased after the COVID-19 pandemic.

"However, I think that is a problem that we have to overcome. WFH is among the choices. We will continue to discuss it," she stated.

Related to the WFH appeal, the ministry is also still studying to provide an appeal in the form of a letter to private companies.

"We have not come to the point of making an appeal in the form of a letter. However, that is a discourse that we continue to discuss. However, a solution must be found indeed, a way out how this pollution is not getting worse," Fauziyah remarked.

Earlier, at a meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on August 14, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had given various instructions to several ministers and governors to deal with air pollution problems in Jakarta.

Jokowi explained that the air quality in Jakarta was already at the level of 156, which is unhealthy, which was caused by the long dry season for the last three months, emissions emitted from transportation and industrial activities in Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta), especially those that use coal in the manufacturing industry sector.

"I have a number of notes that need to be brought to the attention of all relevant ministries and agencies. The first is in the short term, intervention must be carried out as soon as possible to improve air quality in Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta)," Jokowi emphasized.
