Jokowi to Attend G7 Summit in Germany, Ministry Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed that President Joko Widodo or Jokowi would visit Germany in the near future. The president was scheduled to attend the G7 Summit slated to be held on June 26-28.
"The President will go to Germany to attend the invitation by Germany as the current G7 host," said the spokesperson at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Teuku Faizasyah, when contacted on Saturday, June 17.
Faizasyah confirmed that Jokowi would attend the summit that would be held in Schloss Elmau, Germany, but he did not detail the date. "I need to check on what date [of the event] that the president would attend," he said.
G7 is a group of developed countries comprising Germany, France, Canada, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The European Union is also on the list of country members.
In 2016, Jokowi attended the G7 Outreach Meeting in Ise Shima, Japan. Before the G7 delegations, he talked about Asia's welfare and stability.
Previously, President Joko Widodo welcomed the visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, on Thursday, June 16. In the meeting, Jokowi invited Germany and the G7 countries to collaborate on science, technology, and funding of energy transition which are the priorities of G20 and G7 country members.
Besides Indonesia, German also invited Argentina, India, Senegal, and South Africa, as quoted from its official website g7germany.de.
German Councilor Olaf Scholz said that they hope for constructive discussions with these partner countries.
