TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Local budget hotel aggregator Airy is reportedly prepared to cease providing services from May 31st due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has hugely affected the tourism industry.
Citing Asia’s technology media Tech in Asia on Thursday, May 7, Airy emailed its partners that the company has decided to stop its operational activities permanently.
“We have made our best efforts to overcome the impact of this [international] disaster. However, given a significant technical decline and a reduction in human resources that we have at the moment, we have decided to stop our business [activities] in a permanent manner,” the company said in the email.
In a previous interview on March, Airy CEO Louis Alfonso Kodoatie said that the company has mitigated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic by pivoting towards profitability, due to its effect on Airy’s occupancy rate at the time.
Despite the promising statement, Airy had reportedly laid off 70 percent of its employees the following month in April.
