TEMPO.CO, Mataram - Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) was flocked by domestic and foreign tourists from Bali ahead of Nyepi Day.
NTB Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Chairman Hadi Faisal stated the most people visiting Lombok because they want to get a different atmosphere. In Lombok, tourists can still enjoy their vacation while experiencing Nyepi celebration.
"As of yesterday, the flow of foreign tourist arrivals gradually increase as well as domestic tourist. We recorded, a total of 300 students from Sidoarjo came to Lombok, and at least 2 meetings and research activities will still be held," said Hadi in Mataram, Friday, March 16.
Hadi explained during Nyepi holiday, tourists in Lombok booked hotel facilities to hold meetings such as seminar and conference. "The occupancy rate also increased because any tourists directly flew from Bali to Tiga Gili, as well as Senggigi, Lombok," he added.
However, Ngurah Rai Airport Public Relations Head Arie Ahsanurrohim previously stated the passengers’ number at Bali airport during Nyepi holiday 2013 only raised up to 2-3 percent compared with normal days.
He estimated the number of domestic passengers to depart from Bali was as many as 26,000 people. "There is a slight surge of domestic departure," Arie said, Friday, March 16.
The reason, he went on, because Nyepi holiday falls on weekends, Saturday, March 17, thus no significant raise affected.
