TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hotel Alexis officially ceased its operation today as its business permit expired on Monday, October 30. The Capital Investment and One-Stop Service Office (PMPTSP) has not yet extended the hotel and the massage house's business permits amid the allegation of prostitution practices.

The Alexis Group management today held a press conference saying that they accepted the decision. They also hoped to have a negotiation related to the hotel’s permit.

During the press conference, the Alexis Group management claimed that it had contributed a large amount of tax to the city.

“We pay tax amounting to about [Rp]30 billion a year,” Alexis Group spokesperson Lina Novita said in North Jakarta today.

Lina said that the taxes were generated by all Alexis’ business units, including hotels, restaurants, and massage houses. She also mentioned that the company was forced to lay off 150 employees as a result of the temporary closure.

Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan decided not to renew Hotel Alexis’ business permit as he promised during the campaign for the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election. The decision, issued through the PMPTSP on October 27, was based on Regional Regulation No. 12/2013, Regional Regulation No. 1/2014, Tourism Minister’s Regulation No. 18/2016, and others.
