TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Based on budgets proposed by regions across Indonesia, the General Elections Commission (KPU) predicted that the upcoming 2018 simultaneous regional elections would cost about Rp10.5 trillion.
“However, it could be less than that, considering that the government usually grants less money than that requested,” KPU Chairman Arief Budiman said during the launch of the 2018 regional simultaneous election in Makassar on Thursday, September 29.

According to Arief, as many as 171 regions, 17 provinces, 39 cities, and 115 districts will hold the simultaneous regional elections. Arief claimed that the commission would not face any significant difficulties related to local grant agreement (NPHD).
Arief revealed that each region’s commission is set to recruit an ad hoc committee on October. KPU is not issuing a classification regarding regions that are prone to electoral fraud and or forms of election manipulation.
According to Iqbal Latief, Chairman of the South Sulawesi branch of the KPU, South Sulawesi has always been in the ‘red zone’ during an election season.
