TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry said that the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) project is expected to be completed by 2019.
“One of the causes of the land subsidence in Jakarta is groundwater overuse,” Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said in a press release on Thursday, August 17.
Basuki explained that raw water supplies must be sufficient in order to maintain the ground water supplies. He revealed that the raw water supplies for Jakarta come from the Jatiluhur Dam and ground water.
In a bid to prevent flooding, the government will construct a 120-km-long giant levee, consisting of coastal levees and estuary levees. The Jakarta levee construction is based on the updated NCICD Masterplan that consists of three stages, namely emergency, medium, and optimum.
T. Iskandar, head of the center for Ciliwung Cisadane river explained that the levee construction is the second stage of the project that is divided into two packages. The first package is located at Muara Baru, North Jakarta. Developers appointed to handle the projects are PT Waskita Karya and PT Adhi Karya KSO, with a contract worth Rp379 billion.
“Package 1 has progressed to 57.97 percent or 1,317 meters,” Iskandar said.
