TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. Recorded a net loss in the first semester of 2017 of US $283.8 million. Excluding non-recurring expenses, the company's total net loss amounted to US $138 million.
President Director of Garuda ,Pahala Nugraha Mansury, said the loss was triggered by the fuel price burden in the first semester. "The figure rose 36.5% compared to the first half of 2016," he said at the Indonesia Stock Exchange Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
He explained that in three months during the second quarter, the company plans to issue cost factors related to the cost of Tax Amnesty and also the cost of legal cases in Australia because each requires USD $138 million and USD $8 million. To that end, the company will make improvements to the initiatives; either optimizing, costing, or improving the route used by the company. "In the future we hope to become an integrated aviation group," he explained.
Quarterly, Pahala said, the company was able to reduce net loss. Net loss was recorded at US $38 million in the second quarter. That number has decreased 62% from the previous quarter which reached US $99.1 million. The decline was driven by a higher operating revenue in the second quarter of this year. Pahala said the revenue increase was driven by fleet optimization, service level improvements, and route optimization. "Another effort is to improve digital services and revenue management systems," he said.
According to him, the operational performance of red plates is also supported by international passenger revenue in the second quarter which increased 16%. The number of international passengers also rose 14.8% over the previous year. In the first half of 2017, the international passenger revenue reached US $653.3 million. Domestic passenger revenue reached US $569 million. The number of passengers transported was 17.2 million people, an increased 3.9% compared to the first half of 2016.
