Veronica Tan Reveals Reason behind Withdrawal of Ahok`s Appeal

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Veronica Tan, the wife of inactive Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok, has revealed the reason behind the withdrawal of the appeal against Ahok’s two-year jail sentence handed down by the North Jakarta District Court in a blasphemy case.
“As has already been said by the lawyers, and also family members, we know that… let Bapak [Ahok] get through this for the good of all,” Veronica told a press conference today in Jakarta.

“It means that we will not proceed [with the appeal], we will comply with the verdict,” she went on.
Moreover, without giving further details, Veronica said that the family will continue to support Ahok.

“Going forward… we and the children and family will try to support bapak serving the sentence,” she said.
“From bapak took office as a governor to him being named a suspect until today’s process, we, the family, feel content,” Veronica said.
