TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police chief Insp. Gen. M. Iriawan has denied criminalizing ulemas as accused by the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI). The FPI member earlier made the accusation at Monday’s rally during the FPI leader Rizieq Shihab’s questioning at Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters.
“What criminalization? Which ulema is being criminalized? I have never heard of it,” Iriawan said while putting his hands over his ears yesterday in Cakung, East Jakarta.
According to Iriawan, Rizieq’s questioning was based on an investigation. He stressed that the investigation had not been politicized.
Meanwhile, on Rizieq’s status, Iriawan said that investigators will make a decision after a case presentation. “The investigators will discuss it later, after case presentation, we will decide whether to name him a suspect or not,” he said.
