TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The ongoing flood in Riau has resulted in possible food shortage in Kampar Regency, according to Santoso, Chief of the Kampar Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD). Four other villages that face threats of food crisis, said Santoso, include Lubuk Bigau, Tanjung Permai, Pangkalan Kuras and Kebun Tinggi.
"The road to those four villages is difficult to pass. Local residents, which are dominated by rubber farmers, find it hard to sell their harvest. There are around 3,000 residents in those villages," Santoso said on Monday, February 15, 2016.
BPBD also faces difficulty in distributing aid and supplies for flood victims, which continue to diminish.
Social Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa urged local regents to distribute aid for flood victims immediately. Khofifah instructed regents to distribute 100 tons of rice to prevent food shortage.
"If 100 tons are not enough, regents can ask governor to distribute 200 tons of rice. If more is needed, regents can ask the Social Affairs Ministry," said Khofifah.
