Istaka Karya Sends Home Bodies of Papua Shooting Victims

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Istaka Karya Corporate Secretary Yudi Kristanto said his side had successfully identified workers who became victims while constructing the bridge project in Yigi River and Aurak River, Nduga District, Papua Province.
“We work hard in the past several days. We help officers to evacuate and identify victims, and we send victims’ bodies to their region of origin,” said Yudi, as quoted by Antara on Friday, Dec. 7.
Yudi mentioned a total of 16 ‘heroes of development’ were Istaka Karya employees. Eight of them came from Toraja, South Sulawesi; two from Gowa, South Sulawesi; Four from Palu, Central Sulawesi; one from East Nusa Tenggara; and one worker from Tebing Tinggi, Medan.
“We have sent several victims’ bodies using Hercules aircraft owned by the Indonesian Military two hours ago,” he underlined.
According to Yudi, security officers are still monitoring areas around the bridge in Trans Papua to seek three other victims. “From a military operation in Habema-Hugi Bridge, three lost victims have not been found yet. Until now, the searching effort is still ongoing,” he added.
Earlier, Papua Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Ahmad Musthofa Kamal said as many as 31 workers of Istaka Karya were killed by armed groups on December 2. The workers were building bridges in Yigi River and Aurak River, Yigi District, Nduga Regency, Papua.
