TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama’s lawyer I Wayan Sudirta maintained that the backstory and legal facts that eventually jailed his client often took place prior to World War Two and that Ahok will be vindicated in the future.
I Wayan Sudirta’s comment was aimed at musician and Gerindra Party cadre Ahmad Dhani in court. Ahmad Dhani is currently undergoing court trial for his alleged hate speech case and maintained that he does not accept punishments on par or exceeds the punishment Ahok received.
“Ahok’s case will someday be vindicated in the next decade or century. It will show that he was innocent after political conditions return to normal,” said I Wayan on Tuesday, November 6.
I Wayan further explained that prior to the second World War many were persecuted and punished under political pressure instead of actually being proven guilty by law.
The lawyer gave an example of the public disrupt that arose when Ahok, former Jakarta Governor, intended to file for an appeal after he was sentenced guilty by the North Jakarta District Court on May of 2017.
I Wayan’s sentiment was echoed by Ahok`s sister, Fifi Letty Indra, who said; “Ahok did not conduct blasphemy, he was a victim of a trial by mob.”
