TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Labuan Bajo in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, offers many islands for you to visit with a phinisi sail ship, which has been the most popular travel package to travel from island to island here.
Prefer snorkeling under the bright sky in clear waters? Kanawa Island is one of the perfect places to do that other than the Pink Beach, which is surrounded by white sand beaches and calm waters. The island sets a price of Rp100,000 for boats to harbor there.
Setting foot on the island’s harbor, various fish species will welcome you under the wooden bridge, as if tantalizing you to take a dive with them in the water so clear that it fully exposes the underwater occupants, such as lion fishes, groupers, memos, and more. If you’re lucky enough, sea turtles will also be there to greet you.
Tempo suggests visitors to arrive well in the morning or afternoon, especially if you plan on visiting with children. In the afternoon, the water would mostly subside and expose a whole lot more of the marine life inside.

There are several cottages rented by Kanawa Resort at the island, however, Tempo saw that two outer cottages located by the left side of the restaurant seemed less maintained—we suspect they are not for rent anymore.
However, right in the central part of the island, just straight from the harbor, there is a restaurant that serves Italian, Continental, and Indonesian foods. This can quite guarantee a full tummy after enjoying the beauty of the 35-hectare island.
Don’t forget that several chairs and tables at the beachside are rented under various prices. Usually, resort staffers would approach visitors that sit there and charge Rp50,000 for the chance to sit on a chair and a table.
The island can be reached in 50 minutes by phinisi ship from Labuan Bajo. The local resort also operates a ship from Labuan Bajo to Kanawa to accommodate the resort’s visitors.
