TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno mentioned two reasons for the decline in Jakarta’s economic growth. In the first quarter of 2018, it increased 6.02 percent. But in the same period last year, it was 6.48 percent.
First reason, said Sandiaga, the investment in several infrastructure projects such as Light Rail Transit (LRT) Phase 2 and Rapid Mass Transit (MRT) Phase 1 are still ongoing.
“It makes the spending of capital activity decreases,” said Sandiaga at City Hall, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, August 7.
The second reason, said Sandiaga, the decline in economic growth was due to the decreasing of service exports. According to him, the number of foreigner hotel guests for business and tourism interests has decreased.
“This can be understood because of the limited number of convention or exhibition meetings in the fasting month, the effect of Ramadan,” Sandiaga said.
According to Head of Jakarta Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Thoman Pardosi, the 6.02 percent of Jakarta’s economic growth was in the fair category because the trend of the first quarter indeed slowing down. Jakarta’s economy will usually increase in the second to the fourth quarter.
