TEMPO.CO, Padang - Padang City, West Sumatra held again the Padang Indian Ocean Music Festival (PIOMFest 2018). This world-class music festival has become the second event held in the 349th anniversary of Padang City that was held in the Batang Harau River area under the Siti Nurbaya Bridge, Padang, 3 to 5 August.
PIOMFest is curated by Edy Utama, it will feature musicians from seven countries, namely India, Mauritius, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, Peru, and Indonesia.
“The musicians who will perform are the options that can give their own color to the annual event of the Padang City festival, there is Eric Triton Duo from Mauritius country and a musician Lakshman Das Baul from Kalkota, India,” said Edy Utama, Saturday, July 21.
From Southeast Asia will perform a musical group from Singapore, Flame of The Forest, which will play a number of ethnic musical instruments. Two Japanese musicians, who join the KURI Studio musical group, will combine Japanese and Irish music. A guest musician from Peru, Wilmer Montoya, will sing the wistful tones of the Pan Pipe Flute bamboo instrument. Edy Utama, who has been the curator of Sawahlunto International Music Festival (SIMFes) for seven years, will also be carrying four music groups from Indonesia.
From the west coast of Sumatra will perform Dol Mayangsari music group from Bengkulu City, Darak Badarak from Pariaman, Sacral Performance from Padang and Sawahlunto New Ensemble from Sawahlunto City. Head of Padang Tourism Medi Iswandi said Piomfest is an ethnic music event that attracted many foreign tourists.
“We hope this event can be one of the attractions for tourists coming to the city of Padang, the target is not only foreign tourists but also domestic tourists who want to see quality music,” Medi Iswandi said.
This music festival is held under Siti Nurbaya Bridge, Jalan Batang Harau Padang, from 08:00 pm to 11:00 pm every night from August 3 until August 5. The festival is open to the public and is free of charge.
